Renewable Energy and Advanced Energy Infrastructure Case Histories

Saft

Value Achieved

Carmen Group helped Saft secure a $95.5 million grant, which represents the only ARRA Battery Manufacturing Initiative award for the production of lithium ion batteries for military hybrid vehicles, aviation, smart grid support, broadband backup power, and energy storage for renewable energy.  The project creates 800 construction jobs and upon completion will support 279 full time, green technology jobs in Florida.

Campaign

Carmen Group advised Saft on all aspects of the project, including the location of the factory given ARRA politics, critical cost share recommendations to Saft leadership, and competitive differentiation of Saft’s application in order to ensure the best possible consideration by DOE evaluators.  Carmen Group professionals utilized their expertise to help draft key language and manage the grant application process, including actively working with Saft’s Congressional delegation to secure critical support for the application and pressing for an expanded emphasis of the grant program beyond hybrid and electric vehicles.
